Greek art dates back as far as 6000 BC...

Anthropomorphic figurines out of terracotta are commonly excavated from Greek Neolithic houses and settlements. Representing the importance of domestic cults, largely centering around a female goddess.

Other interesting artifacts such as vessels were widely produced in a broad range of shapes and materials and used in Crete during the Bronze Age, 3300-1050 BC. The bull's head Rhyton for example, is one of the most magnificent and technologically accomplished works of art. The Bull was an animal central to Minoan Culture, particularly at Knossos, where fresco scenes of bull-leaping have been found. I have a picture of a bull created in 1550 BC, but I do not know how to download it to this section. Restaurant Mythos on Park Avenue, has a reproduction made on the second floor, llustrating a bull-leaping fresco of that period.

During the same period and in Crete, I am also impressed by the findings of the statues of the, Snake Goddess.

I would like to see a lot more public art in Montreal. We have to promote our artists, designers, etc.

Montreal is a cultural metropolis and we have to increasingly strive to be one of the best.
In 2006, UNESCO, acknowledged Montreal as a city of Design.

Arts and culture is what adds life, spirit and quality to a city.

What would living be like, without arts and culture? Think about it.

Respectfully,
Eleni

I'm aware of 2 events that are worth attending in Montreal - ExpoArt Montreal and Festival International Montréal en Arts (FIMA).

FIMA, on it's 10 year, is just around the corner - July 2nd to 5th and is being held on St. Catherine between St. Hubert and Papineau. The 3rd ExpoArt was held last October in Place Bonaventure - this year venue has not yet been announced.

Here are the links for each:

The 50 Wealthiest Greek Americans

This is a special issue from the National Herald, an english newspaper pubished in New York, and it talks about the 50 most wealthiest Greek Americans.

This was very interesting and had some surprises. The most surprising for me, being in IT, was D. James Bidzos, founder of Verisign.
